This is all you need to know: Jefferson County Public Schools rank in the bottom quartile in Kentucky.
And someone had the nerve to title the K-PREP report “Unbridled Learning: College/Career Readiness for All.” How about that?

I’ll be reporting this in my news this afternoon and evening on WGTK 970 AM.
JCPS Priority List:
1. Get Local Money – raise property taxes
2. Get State Money – make sure kids come to school each day
3. Get Federal Money – bus the poor kids around town, create Title I schools
4. Get more Federal Money – be the first to sign up for Common Core Curriculum
4. Save Money – have the parents buy all of the supplies
5. Free Money – use $$ raised by the PTA to stock vending machines and profit from staff and teachers
6. More Free Money – jack up the ticket price on field trips and make a profit
7. Hire friends at exorbitant salaries.
8. Intimidate and bully any opponents.
9. Buy off the newspaper editors.
10. Go to step 1.
Oopsie! Educating the kids isn’t on the list!
Great list!
Great list, Louisesbff! It’s funny but tragically, it is so so so believable.
Sad isn’t it… I wasn’t even trying to be funny.
Just a quick glance through the list, there isn’t a school in Jefferson County that is ranked proficient or above that is also a Title I school. Except Meyzeek, and I wonder if it is because it is a Magnet? So even though the magnet kids would score Fantabulous, they would be pulled down by the other half of the school, thus averaging out to be just “barely adequate” ranking for the whole school?
I see other counties with quite a few Title I Schoolwide School with Distinguished rankings…
So why can’t JCPS Title I schools get good rankings? From a business perspective, heads should be rolling, starting from the top!
Meyzeek is a magnet! A math, science and technology magnet that’s located in Smoketown, one of the deadliest, poorest neighborhoods in Louisville. At one time, Smoketown had one of the highest murder rates in the nation! JCPS has herded a bunch of neighborhood kids out of Meyzeek by assigning Highland Middle as their “resides” school. Apparently, the scheme wasn’t good enough to crank up the test scores. Amazing.
Excellent post.
