State details plans to fix failing schools
June 15, 2010 – Kentucky Education Commisioner Terry Holliday told a legislative committee Monday that the state is moving ahead with efforts to turn around persistently low-achieving schools as required by state and federal legislation.
The state Department of Education recently identified 10 such schools statewide based on factors including low scores in reading and math, missing adequate yearly progress goals for at least three straight years and having a high school graduation rate of less than 60 percent for three consecutive years.
The 10 failing schools are
Caverna High School in Barren County
Lawrence County High, Leslie County High
Metcalfe County High and
six in Jefferson County: Frost Middle, Shawnee High, Valley High,
Fern Creek High, Western High and Western Middle.
